Cultural Tour to Guinea, West Africa with Mangue Sylla |
January 15 to February 15, 2005
Itinerary
Mangue Sylla will be your host during your stay in Guinea.
The trip includes:
- All women Doun Doun Workshop available.
- Trip to the village of Boke. Experience village living and Triba festival.
- 4 hours of classes 5 days a week with master dancers and drummers.
- Evenings spent attending performances, watching rehearsals, and participating in Doundoumbas, Yankhadis and Sabar parties (Traditional drum and dance ceremonies)
- Overnight trip to the lovely island of Soro, off the coast of Guinea.
- Excursions into the beautiful villages and busy marketplace outside Conakry.
- Opportunities to intimately experience and explore the culture, Susu language, and cooking in Guinea.
- 1 day excursion to the beautiful village of Kindia (home of Indigo fabrics).
Logistics
What you need for the trip:
- Visa and valid passport
We can help you obtain visa from the Consulate of Guinea; please allow several weeks for visa processing.
- Yellow fever vaccination is required and Malaria Prophylaxis is recommended. You may want to consult a travel clinic, or your primary care physician about recommended vaccines.
- Mosquito nets will not be provided but you are responsible for personal as well as some necessary items.
Bottled water will be available for purchase. Guinea will be very hot and dry during this time of the year.

Cost and Payment
$400/week. $1500 for 4 weeks.
Reserve payment due by September 30, 2005 $200.
Complete payment due by January 1, 2006.
Fees include ground transportation to and from the airport, classes, planned excursions, accomodations, and 3 meals a day.
